Are You Being Watched?

Do you ever wonder where cozy mystery authors get their ideas? Agatha Christie, one of the most famous mystery writers of all time, revealed that she would go out into the public and study every day life.

She would draw her characters from people watching – – a woman riding in a bus, or perhaps a man holding a brown parcel. She would then imagine them caught up in a world of murder and mystery.

For "Pacific Beach," I wanted to write a book preserving the memory of our beloved family reunions at the Pacific Terrace Hotel, a five-star venue right on the beach in San Diego. What fun to combine all the activities our family enjoyed with a murder mystery!

For the plot, I used the murder of a teen starlet out on the patio doing a photo signing one year while we were there.
In addition, I used the unfortunate death of one of my husband's childhood friends as a way to open the book.

For a summer read, why not try "Pacific Beach?" It's on sale for only $.99 using a special Smashwords coupon for June 17 and 18.  In the coupon box please enter YT23F and then hit "apply."

I hope you'll take advantage of this offer and enjoy the adventure with Jillian and Teddy.

Trials in the Mystery of Life

What do you do when trials arise? Do you say, "Oh, good - a trial! Can't wait to see the outcome." Or perhaps you crawl into your shell and wait, hoping it will end soon. As believers, we don't face trials alone; our faith in God gives us what we need to press on. We may feel overwhelmed, scared, or confused when faced with adversity, but have you noticed? Trials pass. Peace comes. We move forward.

"The Long Trip Home" is the story of how Jillian Bradley handles a terrible trial in her life. As  I wrote the book, it was important to include emotions of how she felt. Since I had not experienced a trial like hers, I had to glean from the experiences of others. Such is one of the challenges of being a writer. I write stories to not only entertain, but to depict how our loving Heavenly Father is always there for us.

I hope you enjoy this latest adventure of Jillian and her Yorkie companion, Teddy. Here are the Reviews.

Cheers!

For the Love of ...

What do you love? One man loved a myth, that a ruby held in his position would bring power and wealth and soon bring an end to all his financial troubles. I wonder why for generations some people believe that a stone like this ruby has such a power. The only proven power I know is God's ability to create the universe and rule the heavens. God also has the power to change our lives if we let Him.

In my latest book "The Ruby of Siam" Jillian uncovers the mystery of what made one man lose his life and another man risk his job to help him. A love story, "The Ruby of Siam" begs the question, 'How far would a man go to possess an object he believed would change his future forever?'

Enjoy your weekend, dear readers.
See you in my books!

Order in Chaos

By Nancy Jill Thames

What's the saying? "If I only knew..."

Perhaps it's best I didn't know all the ins and outs of publishing a mystery series when I began three years ago. For instance, when I update with a new book like "The Ruby of Siam," all the previous books need to include the new title. (Six books times four versions equals twenty-four changes right there.) But that's why I hire a formatter like Rik Hall up in New Brunswick. No worries thanks to this man.

At times I got so confused trying to update all the files my office was truly in chaos. Then I made a sign: One Book at a Time. Seems to work. These past two weeks I've rewritten Book 2 "The Ghost Orchid Murder." I'm excited about the edits my writing coach has suggested. Now I begin the process of uploading the new file to Kindle, CreateSpace, Nook Press, Kobo, and Smashwords.

There's a new platform I recently became aware of called Google Plus which is like Apple iTunes. What fun it will be to see the response from that site.

For this weekend, however, I'll shut down my computer, tidy up my workspace and curl up with my iPad to watch a few "Murder She Wrote episodes on Netflix. Somehow I can't face another printed word. What's your favorite way to unwind on the weekends? If you haven't tried the Jillian Bradley Mysteries you may enjoy reading about her adventures helping solve homicides along with her Yorkie companion, Teddy.

Book 1 "Murder in Half Moon Bay" is free on all platforms.

Enjoy your weekend, dear readers.
See you in my books!
