Oh No! Buttermilk Fudge Catastophe!

Oh Such Sad Looking Fudge
I made Buttermilk Fudge and it did not go as planned. I ended up with buttermilk pebbles. That's right, when I cut into it, it fell apart.
Oh well, at least it's not soup.
So what went wrong?
Remember when I told you last year that you must, YOU MUST, use the right kind of buttermilk? The 2%. Not 1%. Not the powder stuff you add water to. 2%.
No matter how hard it is to find.
Two Percent.
End of argument.
Period.
Well, I broke the rule. The other stuff was easier to find, I was at the store, I took a chance. It did not pay off.
Don't snicker. Oh you snickered, I know you did. If it happened to someone else, I would snicker. Especially as I know better.
So why did I do it?
I'm running way, WAY behind  I still have presents to buy! And it's less than a week to Christmas. Besides, work is crazy and I'm stressing over the Woolly Weegie. Give me a break!
So I took a shortcut and as usual it turned into a longcut.
Moral of the story. Use the 2% buttermilk when making Buttermilk Fudge.
Anyway, I bought the right stuff and I'll just make another batch.
To do it the right way, remember the recipe is available in A Cup of Cozy now free on Amazon.
So what did I do with this batch? Well I got some of it to hold into squares, kind of, and gave it to a friend with kids. Kids don't care how candy looks as long as it has sugar.
As for the pebbles they are in my frezeer for eating later when I feel like it.
Hey, I didn't say it didn't taste good.

  1. Cindy, I would never snicker at a kitchen catastrophe! Failed fudge usually becomes truffles. In the case of your failed buttermilk fudge though, I'm thinking "rock candy!"

  2. Rock candy! Yeah! It wasn't a mistake, it was an unplanned change of plan.

  3. Buttermilk fudge sounds delicious and I'm glad to be forewarned about buying 2% buttermilk. Thank you for publishing A Cup of Cozy, too. What a wonderful way to discover authors I haven't previously read.
