Are you one of those people who are hesitant when it comes to choosing an ebook over a hard copy? Do you prefer to hold a book in your hands, feel the paper and smell the ink? Well, you will be happy to learn that Amazon announced an interesting and important program recently called Matchbook. This program allows customers who purchase some physical books to also download a Kindle Edition version of that book at a discount, or for free.
Sound good? It is. For Amazon, anyway. Customers can go back as far as 1995 to books they've purchased and order the Kindle version for a maximum of half the current Kindle price. That's right, starting sometime in October, 2013 (I'll let you know the exact date when Amazon let's the world know) customers can order books they already own in the Kindle format. New books in the program can be ordered along with their Kindle counterparts as soon as the program launches.
What will this mean for brick-and-mortar stores? Only time will tell. But ask yourself how nice it would be to hold a book in your hands and read it and then be able to take the Kindle version with you on a trip, say for instance, and not have to pack the hard copy. Or, say you enjoy reading a book in your favorite chair during the day but at night, if you're really hooked on the story and your better half wants you to come to bed, you simply open your Kindle and read without disturbing your spouse by having the light on.
This, as far as I'm concerned, is a win-win. All of the Jillian Bradley Mysteries are enrolled in the program, so if you'd like a book in both formats, when you order the paperback, the Kindle version will only be $1.99.
Cool. I can't wait. What do you think? Do you prefer paperbacks or ebooks? Will the idea fly?
Have a great weekend!
See you in my books!

Nancy--Cool idea. Do you have to be enrolled in KDP Select in order to participate in Matchbook? I chose to opt out of Select so I could publish in Smashwords as well.
ReplyDeleteLinda – You do not have to be enrolled in KDP select. The program is easy to do.
